Gamma Xi Chapter was chartered on February 24, 1947, by the Alpha Delta Chapter at the University of Southern California. The 32 charter members of Gamma Xi are as follows: Bros. Harold Ballard, Ray Barlett, William Berkeley, Robert Boswell, Emerson Chapman, Dr. Payton Cook, Olston Forest Artis, Grant Morris, Hampton J. Rudolph, Henderson, William Howell, Albert James, Harry T. Jones, William Lacefield, Arthur A. Lewis, Don Barksdale, Eugene Little, Samuel Miller, Henry Melton, Davade Miner, Joe Oliver, William Paterson, Alfred Quinn, Stanley Robertson, Enoch Spann, Alda Tabor, William Thompson, Darrington Weaver, Charles Weaver, Don Wortham, William Wynn, and Paul Weaver.
       Gamma Xi Chapter chartered the Pi Kappa Chapter at California State University, Northridge on  September 7, 1984. Three years later the chapter went on to become the first Western Region Chapter to hold the highest college chapter honor of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. as 1987 College Chapter of the Year. Gamma Xi has gone on to receive College Chapter of the Year in 1988, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2018
        The legacy of achievement continues even though UCLA continues to admit a smaller number of African American men each year (this year less than 25 out of those entering the class of 2004).  Recently, the brothers of the Gamma Xi Chapter won Back to Back  Chapter with Highest GPA (2002-2003, 2003-2004), 2004 Western Region Collegiate Scholars Bowl Champions, Back to Back to Back  Western Region College Brothers of the Year (2002- Bro. J. A. Matthews, 2003- Bro. G. A. Turner and 2004 Bro. N. L. Neal).
