Membership in Alpha Phi Alpha is a privilege not granted to many. As an organization with a long history of success and excellence on College campuses and beyond, we must ensure that the men we allow into our brotherhood are willing to do all that takes to add to the legacy of Alpha Phi Alpha and to the Gamma Xi chapter. With that said, leadership experience, academic excellence, professional demeanor, and a passion for service are all EQUALLY important in membership of this fraternity.
Eligibility Requirement
- Attends an institution where an active chapter is located;
- Has successfully completed one semester or two quarters of a regular year's program;
- Is a full-time student taking courses leading to his first academic degree.
- Is in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.5 on a 4.0 grade point scale; or equivalent except where the minimum grade required by the college for graduation is greater, then the minimum grade for graduation must be used for eligibility;
- Is of good character;
- Is registered to vote, if eligible and qualified; and\
- Is sponsored by one (1) active (financial) member.
As mentioned above, at the time of submission, the applicant must hold at least a 2.5 Cumulative GPA. The Gamma Xi chapter, however, requires a 3.0 Cumulative GPA.
Applicant must show proven leadership experience and the willingness to gain more. Leadership can be evaluated from experience in other On-campus Organizations as well as Off-campus commitments.
Applicant must display a level of maturity befitting of a young professional. College is a time of fun and excitement, however, it is important to understand how to carry one's self in a public space. Professionalism and couth are very important to our fraternity.
Knowledge of the fraternity's history, the chapter's history, and a plan for how one can advance the both the chapter and fraternity as a whole. Ambition and progressive thinking are the attributes that drove this fraternity into expansion and are what keep it alive today.
